The site
Pisac is an Inca citadel above the Sacred Valley of Peru, overlooking the Urubamba River near Cusco and dating to around 1440 CE. Its ruins combine temples, sweeping agricultural terraces and a cliff-side necropolis, crowned by an Intihuatana — a carved stone that served the Inca as a solar marker. Today the site and the town below draw heavy tourist traffic, famed as much for its market as for its stonework.
