The site
The Giza Necropolis, at the edge of Egypt's Western Desert near Cairo, holds the three great pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure alongside the Great Sphinx. All were raised during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom, around 2600 to 2500 BCE. Beyond the pyramids themselves the site preserves temples, cemeteries, and the remains of a village that housed the workers who built them.
