The site

Nisa is an ancient city in Turkmenistan occupied between roughly 250 BCE and 220 CE, its ruins preserving traces of a fortified settlement from the age of Persian and Parthian power in Central Asia. Set at the meeting of village and city life, it grew into a place of lasting importance in the region. The site is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
