The site
Lixus is an ancient Phoenician-Punic city on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, its long life stretching from around 1100 BCE into the Roman era. One of the westernmost outposts of Phoenician trade, it endured for well over a thousand years as merchants and empires came and went. The city now sits on Morocco's tentative list for World Heritage recognition.
