The site

Italica is a Roman city in Spain's province of Seville, founded in 206 BCE by the general Scipio as a colonia settling his Italic veterans, who gave the town its name. Migrants from the Italian peninsula and the children of Roman soldiers swelled its population over the centuries. Its most remarkable claim: two emperors, Trajan and Hadrian, were born here, tying this provincial ground to the very summit of imperial Rome.
