The site
The Nazca Lines are a group of geoglyphs carved into the desert floor of southern Peru, made between about 500 BCE and 500 CE by scraping away dark pebbles to expose the pale subsoil beneath. Most run as straight lines across the landscape, but among them are figurative designs of animals and plants, their combined length exceeding 1,300 kilometers. Drones continue to reveal new figures in the twenty-first century. The site is a World Heritage listing.
