The site

Lepenski Vir is a Neolithic village on the banks of the Danube in eastern Serbia, its foundations laid around 7500 BCE. Occupied over an immense span of prehistory, the settlement is best known for its distinctive trapezoidal dwellings arranged along the river. It stands as one of Europe's earliest and most remarkable riverside communities, a foothold of settled life at the dawn of the Neolithic.
