The site

Jericho, in the Jordan Valley of the West Bank, is among the oldest cities on Earth, its Neolithic beginnings reaching back to about 9600 BCE. Archaeologists have unearthed more than twenty successive settlements here, layered atop one another, alongside the remains of an ancient tower and defensive wall. Fed by copious springs, the "city of palm trees" drew human habitation for thousands of years.
