The site

El Tajín, in Veracruz, Mexico, is a ceremonial center of the Classic Veracruz culture that flourished between roughly 600 and 1200 CE. Its ranks of stepped pyramids and numerous ballcourts crown a humid coastal valley, and the site is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage property. For the field explorer, its density of ballcourts marks it as one of Mesoamerica's great arenas of the ritual ball game.
