The site

Prambanan is a 9th-century Hindu temple compound on the plains of southern Java, Indonesia, dedicated to the Trimurti: Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer. Its tall, pointed towers cluster around a soaring 47-metre central shrine, making it the largest Hindu site in Indonesia and second only to Angkor Wat in Southeast Asia. Originally 240 individual temples stood here, a masterpiece of classical Javanese art now inscribed as a World Heritage Site.
