Numantia is an ancient Celtiberian hillfort and settlement crowning the Cerro de la Muela near Garray in Soria, Spain. It is remembered above all for its fierce role in the Celtiberian Wars against Rome: after two decades of hostilities that began in 153 BCE, the Senate sent Scipio Aemilianus to destroy it in 133 BCE. Its stubborn resistance made Numantia a lasting symbol of defiance.
