Lothal is one of the southernmost cities of the ancient Indus Valley civilisation, built around 2400 BCE in the Bhat region of Gujarat, India. Occupied for roughly five centuries, it belonged to the sophisticated urban world of the Indus, with its careful planning and engineering. A candidate on India's tentative World Heritage list, Lothal remains a key window onto Bronze Age life on the subcontinent.
