The site

Gonur Depe is a large early Bronze Age settlement in Turkmenistan, about 60 km north of ancient Merv, occupied between roughly 2400 and 1600 BCE. It served as the capital or major center of the Oxus culture, the Bactria–Margiana Archaeological Complex. With its city fabric and temple structures, Gonur Depe stands as the flagship of a civilization long hidden in the Karakum region.
