The site

Bonampak is a Maya site in Chiapas, Mexico, a small dependency of nearby Yaxchilan built during the Late Classic period between roughly 580 and 800 CE. Its fame rests on the three-roomed Temple of the Murals, whose walls hold some of the best-preserved paintings in the entire Maya world. Seen by outsiders only in 1946, when Lacandon Maya still came to pray there, Bonampak's vivid scenes of ceremony and court life remain unmatched.
