The site

The Rock art of Alta is a vast concentration of Neolithic petroglyphs pecked into the coastal rock of northern Norway. Carved over an astonishing span from roughly 5000 to 500 BCE, the images record the world of hunting and fishing communities across millennia. Following these figures across the stone is like reading a stone chronicle left by successive generations of northern hunters.
