The site
La Venta is a pre-Columbian center of the Olmec civilization in what is now Tabasco, Mexico, flourishing from around 1200 to 400 BCE. Its ceremonial core included an early earthen pyramid, marking it as one of the great cities of Mesoamerica's oldest complex culture. Many of its artifacts have since been moved to a park-museum in nearby Villahermosa.
