The site
Huaca de la Luna, the "Temple of the Moon," is a massive adobe-brick structure raised largely by the Moche of northern Peru. It stands about five kilometers from the Pacific and near the mouth of the Moche River, inhabited between the first and ninth centuries CE. Together with the neighboring Huaca del Sol, it forms the Huacas de Moche, the core of the ancient Moche capital at Cerro Blanco.
