The site

The Mozu Tombs are a cluster of kofun, monumental earthen tombs, at Sakai near Osaka in Japan, once numbering more than a hundred keyhole, round and rectangular mounds, of which fewer than half survive. Among them rises the Daisenryo Kofun, the largest kofun in Japan, thought to have been raised over some twenty years in the mid-5th century. The Imperial Household Agency treats it as the mausoleum of Emperor Nintoku, and the group is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
